"Mine came back yesterday. It was like a life renewed. I don't really understand what kept her for that long at home, yet I'm happy and grateful she's back." Victory said to his friend.
"Maybe because you don't show it, i don't know, won't even believe if someone other than yourself had told me you missed her this much". Replied Voke.
"That must be a joke. Well, we don't say much about love since one of us is loveless". He giggled. "Please don't take that to heart".
"I won't blame you. I'm sure the story will change soon".
"Amen".
He was already laughing before he gave a rethink over Voke's last statement. His smiles disappeared drastically and faced Voke with a fading dry smile.
"Sorry, what did you just say? Do you mean you have someone in mind or you're already in love with someone?"
Voke smiled and pretended as though he was not the one he was talking to.
"I have lots of books to read. I haven't even lay my hand on any of those recommended texts. I'm having a hard time deciding which one to start first."
"That's isn't an issue." Replied Victory. "I haven't done much myself. But bros, you gat to wait. One thing at a time. You..."
"One thing at a time right? I thought as much."
"Yes, one thing at a time. You haven't given me an answer and I'm dying to have one to satisfy my huge curiosity."
Victory was well aware that Voke is highly talented at changing topic. Sometimes, he does that to a level of almost stupidity where the parties involved in the conversation would wonder for the benefit or purpose of their conversation. He would change from subject to subject without driving anyone to a determinate junction. Sometimes, he does this to lure his prey away from talking down on him or proceeding him in an argument. Nevertheless, this act had become part of him to the extent that he does it most times without knowing which usually annoyed his friends. Knowing what Voke is made up of, Victory called his attention in order for him to retrace his lost steps. "Can you please give me an answer to my question?" Asked Victory.
"Question? Have you asked me any question today?"
"You can't be serious. Please don't play that joke with me. I know you well enough and you know i know you, so don't even start."
"Okay, fine. Can you tell me your question? I promise to answer sincerely."
Victory looked straight into his eyes, searching for truism in what he just said. He find it hard to see truth in his eyes since he was best known for his dubious act. He managed to hope he would say the truth since he had promised to tell the truth without force. "Are you in love or do you have someone in mind?" said Victory.
"Yes."
"Yes? Yes what?"
The answer he gave was a bit obscure. Victory wondered by himself what Voke mean by yes. Was he saying yes he is in love or yes, he have someone in mind? This became a problem in his heart. "Can you be plain please?"
"Yes, I have someone in mind, so, I'm in love."
Victory was surprised. He wondered who it was. Voke wasn't someone who would fall in love with anyone. He was reserved when it come to relationship. He hardly talk about love or relationship. It was in his nature to doggedly dodge any talk that has something to do with love. He had rather let Victory win and take over the talk while he retreat than to get himself involve in such conversation. This made Victory shocked and wondered for long.
"Could you tell me how it started?" Asked Victory.
Dubious Voke knew he would want more clarity on such topic and he wouldn't want to go that deep, so he planned on luring him to another angle.
"Well, it all started with the conversion". Said Voke.
"We accepted the conversion in the belief that we were accepting God," Victory replied.
"Yet this God we said we would accept,"
"This Bible is pregnant with abomination."
"Well, that was then, the holly spirit has cleansed the bible." Said Voke.
"Hey, what are you saying? That part is not in the poem."
It was common among them to start a poem unoccasionally and exchange lines as though they were talking to one another. It was just like a culture to most of them in their class, so he knew Victory would fall for it. Or does he have another motif for him to present such an ambiguous statement?
"It's not right? Yes I know it's not. But i need to make things clear to the world. That..."
"Why are you breaking lines?"
"I told you I need to make things clear to the world. That poem was written when the whites were misinterpreting the word of God for their own benefits, but such thing has long went into extinction. No one does that anymore. So the bible is void of any abomination."
This statement rang a bell in Victory's mind and reminded him some things. Was Voke not in the evangelism group? Victory thought. "What if he had met the girl during evangelism?" He asked almost semi-vocally.
"Wait, do you mean you met the girl during evangelism?"
"Which girl?" Voke asked, playing innocent.
"What a guy! I knew you would change the subject. For some minutes, i really do fall for your stupid trick, but it's over. I mean it. I asked you about the girl you are in love with. Did you guys meet during evangelism?"
"Oh, that girl? Yes. We met during our evangelism. She received Christ in her life in one of our evangelism. Anything?"
"I knew it. You are such an impossible guy. I was almost fooled just now."
At this period, a young beautiful slim chocolate lady was seen staring at them from the other edge of the faculty block, directly opposite them. Her friends walked up to her and gently touch her shoulder. She was obviously shocked. She looked around in a haste and gave a relief sigh upon seeing her friend.
"That was a bit much. I was shocked"
"Oh, really? Sorry. But what were you thinking of? And... What or who are you looking at?" Saying as she rolled her eyes, slightly turning her neck, shifting her attention from her friend to the opposite side, just exact direction which her friend had been staring at. "Do you know them?". She asked without looking at her.
"Not really. But i guess I've seen one of them before, but i can't tell when or where. But I'm sure we've met before."
"None of them are in our department."
"In our level you mean to say?"
"No i mean in our department."
"Maybe you should ask around, my research made me understand that that boy is in our department. In his third year i guess."
"Researcher! Since when did you start that research? I thought you said you can't remember where you guys have met before?"
The first lady turned her head slightly towards her friend and looked at her ear as though staring at her eyeballs.
"That's right, i can't remember, but i have seen him a couple of times on this campus. Since I was curious about who he is and where we've met before, i needed to carry out some underground search."
A lecturer was approaching their direction.
"Hey, that man is going to our class, he must not enter before us."
They looked at one another and gave a friendly smile. They ran into the lecture room before the lecturer. The lecturer looked at them and smile without knowing what exactly amused him about them.
